Can Community-Based Social Protection Interventions Improve the Wellbeing of Asylum Seekers and Refugees in the United Kingdom? A Systematic Qualitative Meta-Aggregation Review

The Sustainable Development Goals 2030 call for an end to poverty in all its forms everywhere through the adoption of integrated social protection policies. However, recent literature suggests implicit and explicit discrimination towards asylum seekers refugees (ASRs) United Kingdom policy, leading high rates destitution, poor health isolation. Due limited nature UK government support, many ASRs become involved with semi-formal informal protection. This systematic review synthesizes existing qualitative that documents impact these interventions on wellbeing adult Kingdom. offers useful insights into seeker refugee perceptions wellbeing, agency, support responsibility, how their interaction providers constrains or enables realization fundamental human needs. findings demonstrate is inadequate meet needs refugees, disempowerment, lack agency exploitation. Positive outcomes are linked interventions, summarized six categories: positive volunteering; physical space intentional gathering; practical material support; training skills development; solidarity, inclusion understanding; peer advice.
